Following a comprehensive energy audit of a client’s HVAC system, StrangersEnergy identified significant inefficiencies across more than 1,500 domestic air‑conditioning units installed at their facility. In particular, office air‑conditioning systems were experiencing excessive idle operating hours—averaging 8 hours per day—due to the absence of automated controls.
To address this challenge, StrangersEnergy designed a cost‑effective, high‑impact optimisation strategy that delivered immediate and long‑term energy savings:
Smart Occupancy Control
We recommended the installation of PIR occupancy sensors on 250 air conditioners identified as the most frequently misused. These sensors automatically switch off an air‑conditioning unit when a space has been unoccupied for 20 minutes—reducing wasted energy without compromising comfort.
Transition to High‑Efficiency Air Conditioners
To further enhance long‑term energy performance, we advised a gradual two‑year transition to more efficient dual‑inverter air‑conditioning units. This approach allows the client to upgrade sustainably while maximising cost savings over time.
User Awareness & Sensitisation
Recognising the role of user behaviour in energy efficiency, our solution included targeted occupant sensitisation. This ensures personnel understand how the new controls work and how to operate air conditioners responsibly to maintain efficiency gains
