StrangersEnergy conducted an energy audit on the low‑pressure raw water pump system to understand why all three pumps were running continuously—despite the design intention of 1 duty and 2 standby pumps.
Following the audit, we implemented targeted improvements that restored efficiency and reduced unnecessary energy use:
Updated Control Philosophy
Two pumps now supply the full gland‑water demand, with the third pump only starting if pressure drops below 3.5 bar during reagent mixing.
Network Compliance Restoration
All non‑compliant tap‑offs were removed to restore the system to its original hydraulic design.
Improved Maintenance Practices
PM tasks were updated to include OEM‑recommended gland‑packing adjustments, reducing leakages across the gland‑water circuit
The Result
The existing pump capacity now fully meets plant requirements with 2 duty and 1 standby, delivering tangible energy savings and improved operational reliability.
